再者就是怕遇到台风的时候或者其他突发事故时，在这繁忙海域商船会撞到桥梁。 还有一个原因就是修建海底隧道的地方是临近香港国际机场，众所周知航空领域的建筑物高度限定，这样一来使得该区域无法实现大跨径、高塔结构物，therefore，隧道成为唯一可行的方案。为了实现桥梁与隧道之间的转换，故在隧道两端修建人工岛。
