在80年代以前，香港与大陆之间的陆运交通主要依赖广九铁路，那个时候因为政治背景问题，粤港两地民间交流甚少，直到90年代改革开发以后，两地间的民间交流才逐渐增多;然而事实上，in Hong Kong、澳门未回归大陆之前，两地政府就已经开始发行粤港、粤澳两地车牌了，不过当时并不是粤Z车牌，而是广东02车牌。

粤港车牌有其自身的特殊性，车辆在悬挂粤港车牌的同时，还必须同时其本地车牌，so，我们在深圳及香港市区内会经常看到悬挂两个车牌的车辆在街上行驶。

粤Z车牌 而实际上，大陆车辆办理FV车牌的门槛相对要高很多，其办理条件是注册资本5000万元以上、Annual sales exceed 50 million yuan、Total assets exceed 50 million yuan，或者已在香港投资1000万港元以上的国有企业、collective enterprise、private enterprise。相比之下香港车牌办理粤Z车牌只需要投资100万美金。

therefore，FV在香港更像是特权车辆，香港运输处都管不了，这从侧面也是对申请方的社会地位的肯定吧。

FV车牌 在不远的未来，港珠澳大桥通车之后，必然会更加地促进两地社会、economy、文化的交融，因此早在前两年，广东和香港两地试行推出粤港自驾游试行方案，允许普通车辆单牌滞留粤港两地7天，但因为香港人对于大陆的恐惧并未消停，暂缓大陆普通车辆进入香港的方案，但是已经开放香港车辆单牌车进广东省。

所以现在会看到单牌的香港车辆在广东省内行驶。
