其实事件的起因要追溯到去年，彼时大力进军中国市场的杜嘉班纳拍摄了一组宣传片，不过这组宣传片却被很多网友质疑辱华，因为画面中杜嘉班纳几乎是在刻意用中国底层民众的土气、落后来衬托自己的时尚和现代。
